There are several apparatics which can be used to distalize the maxillary first molar. And in the process of distalization three different load patterns may be involved, buccal , palatal , and buccal and palatal loads at the same time.Objectives: To establish 3-D finite element model of the maxillary first molar together with its periodontal tissue. And to analyze the stress distribution and displacement of PDL with three different load patterns were applied, respectively.Methods: a female volunteer with complete dentition was enrolled. By the spinal CT scan, 55 frames of sectional CT images of the maxillary first molar were harvested. And then with the help of model establishing software, the 3-D finite element model of the maxillary first molar was set up.
