Tooth extractions, which is caused by periodontal disease, are common. There are many designs for the restoration. Fixed denture is the one with its superiority, and accepted widely by dentists and patients. However, there is one of the most important considerations one must concern. It is how to choose the right and appropriate abutments. So it is very helpful to learn about the stress distribution of periodontal tissues, from the biomechanical point of view. Objective: To imitate fixed denture with different bone loss, using a 3-D finite element model, investigate and analyze the biomechanical characteristic, and in this situation provide a design for the treatment. Methods: Use helical CT, RE(reverse engineering) software, and finite element software to establish 3-D finite element model; imitate different alveolar bone loss and study the stress distribution of support tissues in each abutment. The details are:(1)Scan a normal man's lower mandibular field by helical CT to get images of BMP format; input the images into medical images reconstruction software to obtain a 3-D figure of the model; use RE software to get the material object.(2)Establish the 3-D finite element model with one lower incicor absent...
