Cell transplantation is a hot spot in many fields. With the development of conceptions and techniques over 30 years, liver stem cell transplantation had been applied to clinical settings from basic research. Preliminary experimental results suggested that mesenchymal stem cells could differentiate into functional hepatocyte in vivo or in vitro. Thus, cell transplantation has a glorious prospect in the treatment of acute and chronic hepatic functional failure, hereditary and metabolic liver diseases. The application of mesenchymal stem cells instead of mature liver cells in transplantation will be a breakthrough for the treatment of liver diseases. However, in vivo image of transplant cells and further investigation would be a trouble to be faced with.
