Background and objectives: Primary hypertension(PH) is not only a kind of hemodynamic disease, but also a metabolic disease. About 80 percent patients with primary hypertension have one or more risk factors, such as the abnormal metabolism on blood uric acid. Above all, the increased level of blood uric acid is a strong independent predictive factor for cardiovascular events in hypertension. In clinic, four parameters are used in the description to blood pressure, that is: systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), mean arterial pressure (MAP), pulse pressure (PP). In practice, the blood pressure fluctuates frequently, which is deeply related to the development of the disease. Usually, SBP and DBP represent two extreme values, while pulse pressure means the range to the fluctuation of blood pressure. Therefore, pulse pressure is more informative than SBP or DBP. It has been proved that the artery of the aged patients with primary hypertension is not flexile and the raised pulse pressure is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular events. It is showed that both the raised pulse pressure and uric acid related with the reduction of NO and the disfunction of endothelium. The aim of the study was not only to discuss the relationship between pulse pressure and blood uric acid, but also to analyze the change of them by using Simvastatin.Material and methods:Subjects: 85 patients with primary hypertension were selected from the Fifth People's Hospital of Dalian from Jan,2001 to Jan,2005,these patients aged(72.51±5.43)years, among them 52 cases were male, and 33 cases were...
