Purposes:To observe olfaction dynamics and investigate olfactory mechanisms with the differential regression analysis (DRA) technique by functional magnetic resonance (fMRI).Material And Methods: Eleven right-handed healthy volunteers without olfaction impediment (7 men, 4 women; 19-29 years old, mean 21.45 years) underwent this study, All the volunteers who smelled the experiment gasses as to conform the velocity of gas flow had been trained before the experiment and they all accorded to the experiment requirements.1,Experiment equipment and reagentTwo kinds gasses were given uninterruptedly through personally developed instrument, one was amyl acetate regarded as pleasant odor and the other one was pyridine regarded as unpleasant odor. And gas flow velocity was controlled in amyl acetate at 500ml/min and in pyridine at 250ml/min.2,Experiment designImproved Block Design was adopted in this study. The olfactory stimulating tasks were divided into two groups: pleasant and unpleasant gas was given respectively.airflow was given separately during the period of pre-experiment and intermission. Each group task was divided into two blocks proceeding 184 scans(S)(184 fMRI images) totally with the first 4 images wiped off. The first block went on 85 scans, in which the first 30 scans were experiment gasses and the following 55 scans were regarded as the control group. And the second block went on 70 scans, in which the...
