Objective: To compare the efficacy as well as the side effects of the combination of retrobulbar injection and orbital irradiation with any single method in the thyroid associated ophthalmopathy(TAO), and analysis the influential factors.Method: 97 patients(159 eyes) with TAO were divided into three groups, the retrobulbar injection group(RIG),the orbital irradiation group(OIG) and the combinated group(CG). Patients in RIG were injected retrobulbarly with the mixture of 10mg triamcinolone acetonide acetate(TAA) and 0.5ml 2%lidocaine each eye. In OTG, patients received a total dose of 20Gy 10Mevβradial delivered in 2-Gy fractions to the posterior one half of the orbit each eye, 5d/wk.In CG patients were treated with both of the methods. Record the manifastaion of each patient, and analyse the defferences between the three groups in statistic method. Results: (1)13 patients (22 eyes) were excluded after 7.1±1.5 months follow-up. The total efficiency were 64.2% in RIG, 55.3%in OIG and 82.6%in CG. (2)For patients whose course <1year, the effieciency of CG is 95.8%, significantly higher than RIG(76.7%) and OIG(66.7%)(P...
