Radix Tripterygium is a commonly used Chinese medicine , it is shown to have anti-inflammatory, immune depressing, anticancer, anti-fertility and other powerful effects, and be used for treating many kinds of diseases. The total effective ratio of the total alkaloids from Radix Tripterygium in curing rheumatoid arthritis was 100%, and the obvious effective ratio was 80%, while the toxicity of alkaloids is less than the diterpene compounds. However, this medicine is mainly from wild resources, the quality of the medicine is extremely varied. This problem affects the safety, effective, stable and controllable of the patent medicine from Radix Tripterygii. So the overall research on the quality of material medicine of Radix Tripterygii, to select good germplasms, and further to cultivate the medicine is an imperative work.In this paper, we determined the quantity of wilfordsuine, wilformine, wilforine, wilfortrine and the total alkaloids of Tripterygium wilfordii Hook, T. hypoglaucum (Levl.) Hutch and T. regellii Sprague et Takeda by using High-Performance Capillary Electrophoresis(HPCE), High-Performance Liquid Chromatograph(HPLC) and Ultraviolet-Visible Absorption Spectra(UV).We built up the method to separate wilfordsuine, wilformine, wilforine (concluding wilforgine), and determined the quantity of former two compounds using HPCE, but we failed to determine most material samples for a lot of compounds with similar structure existing in material medicine.A method with HPLC to separate the four alkaloids from Tripterygium has been established. We determined the quantity of xylem and phloem from 25 populations, 116 individual samples of Tripterygium wilfordii Hook, from Zhejiang, Hunan, and Fujian etc. (the samples distribute same places with higher altitude, which morphology and growing characters is between T. wilfordii and T. hypoglaucum, is called intermediate Tripterigium temporarily) ; T. hypoglaucum (Levl.) Hutch from Sichuan, Guizhou and T. regellii Sprague et Takeda from Jilin). It is found that the content of wilforine and wilforgine is both high and similar, while the other two are lower, the content of wilfordsuine is also a little lower than that of wilformine. In the xylem, the content of the alkaloids is: wilfordsuine: 010.87×10-5g/g, wilformine: 017.51×10-5g/g, wilforgine: 062.87×10-5g/g,wilforine: 0373.78×10-5g/g respectively; while in the phloem, wilfordsuine: 0101.25×10-5g/g, wilformine: 0143.73×10-5g/g, wilforgine: 0370.11×10-5g/g, wilforine: 0373.78×10-5g/g.The total quantity of the four alkaloids varies according to different samples, the...
