Schisandra neglecta A.C. Smith, belonging to the genera Schisandra, Schisandraceae family, is called Xiao-Xue-Teng in common. Its fruits are used in folk medicine as substitution of Wu-Wei-Zi as tonic, sedative, and astringent agents for treatment of rheumatic arthritis, traumatic injury, dysmenorrhea, abdominal pain, and related diseases. Anti-tumor bioassay of 95% EtOH extracts and Et2O extracts from the stems of Schisandra neglecta were conducted and the Et2O extracts displayed significant activity of cytotoxicity. Phytochemical investigation on the ether soluble extracts of the stems of S. neglecta led to the isolation of 35 compounds, in which 29 compounds were identified through the spectroscopic analysis methods including IR, UV, CD, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, 2D-NMR and HR-ESI-MS. There were 28 lignans, 1 triterpene and among which there are 7 new compounds. Their structures were elucidated as Deoxychidandrin (SN2), Kadsuric acid (SN3), Schisanhenol (SN5), Schisanhenol B (SN7), Negschisandrin A(SN8), (-)-Gomisin L1(SN9), Angeloylgomosin H(SN10), Negschisandrin B (SN11), Negschisandrin C (SN12), Gomosin H (SN16), Tigloylgomisin H (SN17), Benzoylgomisin H (SN19), Negschisandrin D (SN20), Rubschisantherin (SN22), Negschisandrin E (SN23), actylgomisin R (SN24), Negschisandrin F (SN25), benzoylisogomisin O(SN26), 6-O-benzoylgomisin O (SN27), Benzoylgomisin P (SN28), Tigloylgomisin P (SN29), Gomisin R (SN30), Kadsurin (SN31), Negschisandrin G (SN35), Schisandrin (SN38), Gomisin O (SN40), Epigomisin O (SN41), Gomisin B (SN42) and (+)-γ-Rubschisandrin (SN44). Among them, SN8, SN11, SN12, SN20, SN23, SN25, SN35 were new compounds, and the others were isolated for the first time from this species. The cytotoxicity bioassay of the compounds is in progress.
