Object To study the epidemic character and the pathogen of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) to determine the prevention and treatment strategies.Methord Retrospective analysis was performed on the underlying disease, sex, age, ventilator time, H2 receptor blocker usage of the cases in all the departments of the First Hospital Attached to Shanxi Medical University. VAP cases were diagnosed according to its clinical criterial from above cases, and the other cases were chosen as not-VAP cases, again VAP was categorized as either early-onset VAP or late-onset VAP, then we studied its pathogen distribution, antibiotics resistance results, treatment and outcome. All the data used SPSS 10.0 and performed Chi-square test.Result morbility of VAP was 34.4 percent. Mortality of VAP was 49.1 percent, which was notably higer than not-VAP (29.7 percent). Its morbility had nothing to do with underlying disease name, and its risk factors involved male gender, the aged, prolonged ventilating time and H2 receptor blocker usage. VAP could remarkably enhance mortality. Early-onset VAP was commonly caused by Gram negative bacteria, late-onset VAP was commonly caused by Gram positive bacteria, fungus was much too. Drug-resistant microorganisms were common and more difficult to treat. Conclusion VAP had high morbility and mortality. It was caused predominantly by Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus, with multiple predisposing factors. Avoiding VAP risk factors and taking effective measure, we can obviously reduce its morbility and mortality, which will have a significant value.
