Objective To study the expression of urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor(uPAR) in the tumor tissue and the peripheral blood to investigate its value for the invasion metastasis and prognosis in cervical cancer. Methods (1)The expression of uPAR was detected by SABC immunohistochemical technique.in 10 normal cervix and 43 cervical cancer.(2)The plasma levels of suPAR in 30 normal women,94 patients suffered from cervical cancer were measured by using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).Results (1)The positive rate of uPAR in the cervical cancer cases was 84.85% ,but these were all negative in normal cases. The difference of the two groups was statistically significant (p<0.01),and the expression of uPAR in the cervical cancer shew a significant correlation with clinical stage and lymphonode metastasis(p<0.05).(2)The mean levels of suPAR were 0.5023±0.1724ng/ml in plasma of 30 normal women. While that in plasma of 94 cervical cancer patients were 1.0433±0.2736 ng/ml.The plasma suPAR levels of cervical cancer patients were increased in comparision with that of normal women(p<0.01).The suPAR levels in the cervical cancer patients did not show a significant correlation with age, menopause, histological classification, histological grade, style of growth and tumor past size (p>0.05),but were related to clinical stage , lymphonode metastasis, depth of invasion (p<0.05). the suPAR levels paralleled with the expression of uPAR in the tumor tissue. Conclusion There are expression of uPAR in the tumor tissue and peripheral blood from the cervical cancer patients, and uPAR plays a central role in promoting tumor growth, invasion and metastasis. Measurement of suPAR in cervical cancer patients'blood may have value in assessment of prognosis and tumor recurrence. The suPAR levels in the cervical cancer patients did not show a significant correlation with age, menopause, histological classification, histological grade, style of growth and tumor past size (p>0.05),but were related to clinical stage , lymphonode metastasis, depth of invasion (p<0.05). the suPAR levels paralleled with the expression of uPAR in the tumor tissue. Plasma suPAR would be a more reliable and convenient indicator in monitoring uPA system, and could be widely used as a new tumor marker in clinic.
