| Epilepsy(Ep) is a clinical syndrome, which is characterized by cerebral dysfunction caused by abnormal discharge of cerebral neurons whose seizures are repeated, one of frequently encountered disease in nervous system, difficult to cure, and harmful greatly.TCM has accumulated enormous experiences for GTCS with improved knowledge of the disease' s pathogenesis and innovation of treatment. For GTCS, thread embedding in acupoints has been found with satisfying curative effects. With the acupoints anesthesia, the mechanical stimulation, the biologic action and the chemic effect of the thread in acupoints , constant impulsions are produced to restrain the abnormal discharge of cerebral neurons. In this clinical study, curative effects of thread embedding in points of Governor Vessel and Bladder Meridian were evaluated with QOLIE-31, EEG , syndrome and so on.The patients were all from the acupuncture and nerve department of the 1st affliated hospital of Guangzhou University of TCM, Guangzhou General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Command, and Guangzhou hospital of TCM. The patients were selected strictly and were divided into 3 groups by random. The cases of Western medicine group were treated with only anti-epileptic drugs, Sodium Volproate;The cases of acupuncture group were treated with acupuncture plus Sodium Volproate;And the cases of catgut-imbedding group were treated with catgut implantation at acupoint plus Sodium Volproate. All cases were evaluated by QOLIE-31 form and checked by EEG. Results of the study were indicated as follows.1.Clinical curative effects: All cases were evaluated by "the standard of Epilepsy of diagnoses and treatment" . The scores of epilepsy estimation after treatments were improved in the three groups (P<0.05);But the scoreshad not any differentiate between Western medicine group and acupuncture group(P>0. 05);But the catgut-imbedding group was obviously different from them(P<0.05).The clinical therapeutic effect in the 3 groups were satisfied. In the catgut-imbedding group, only 2 cases were approved invalid in all 50 cases. The general effective rate (96%) was better than that of the acupuncture group (92%) and the Western medicine group(82%),witch proved the clinical therapeutic effect in the catgut-imbedding group was superior to that in the acupuncture group and Western medicine group.Curative effects were also found related with the disease course as follows: the shorter the course, the better the result.2.About outbreak: it' s improved in the consciousness, the duration of consciousness disorders, the duration of entasia and clonus after treatments (P<0. 05), but it had not any change in EEG after treatment in the 3 groups.The frequency also reduced obviously in the 3 groups, especially in the catgut-imbedding group, which was better than the acupuncture group and the Western medicine group.3. Concomitant symptom: Weakness in all cases were mend after treatment(P<0. 05). In improving the drowsiness, anorexia, nausea, vertigo and aprosexia, the catgut-imbedding group was superior to the acupuncture group and Western medicine group.4. QOLIE-31 form: 3 groups were found their scores improved after treatment (P<0. 01). And the scores of the acupuncture group were better than that of the Western medicine group. At the same time, the scores of catgut-imbedding group were better than both groups, especial in the aspects of sense, memory, attention, bother and health estimate.To sum up, results of this study indicated that thread embedding in acupoints had affirmative curative effects for GTCS. It also alleviated the side-effects of AED, improved the quality of life. |
