Object:To measure the expression of Epithelial Neutrophil-activating Peptide-78(EAN-78) in eutopic tissue and its level in peritoneal fluid and serum of endometriosis so as to investigate the roles it plays in the occurrence and progression of endometriosis. Methods: The ENA-78 levels in peritoneal fluid and serum were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) in women with endometriosis (stageⅠ~Ⅱ19 cases and stageⅢ~Ⅳ21 cases) comparing with women without endometriosis(n=38).Biospy specimens were obtained from 26 cases of endometriosis, the expression of ENA-78 were measured by immunohistochemical technique.Results:①The level of ENA-78 in the peritoneal fluid were markedly elevated in the endometriosis patients as compared with the controls, especially in women with severe stage disease ,and no significant changes neither in the menstrual cycle nor in serum were observed.②Ectopic glandular cells, stromal cells and macrophages express this inflammatory chemokine. The expression of ENA-78 in eutopic ovarian tissue of stageⅢ~Ⅳwas higher than those of stageⅠ~Ⅱ, and there were no different between secretory phase and proliferative phase. Conclusion: ENA-78 is an important inflammatory media. It can lead to neutrophil activation and recreiting those cells to inflammatory lesion. At the same time it is a potent angiogenic factor, may play important roles in the pathogenesis of endometriosis.
