Objective : To assess the relationship between the process of atherosclerosis in carotid arteries and serum levels of vascular endotherial growth factor (VEGF), plasma levels of von willbrand factor (Vwf) in elderly patients with hypertension and carebral infactor.Method : 66 patients with hypertension(34 with cerebral infaction and 32 without secondary cardiovascular and cerebravascular complications) were included in the study.Each patient was measured the serum levels of VEGF and plasma levels of vWF by ELASA , using high-resolution ultrasonic equipment measured the inner-media thickness(IMT) and radius and the dynamic parameters of carotid arteries,then calculate IMT/r .All patients were compared with 30 normotension controls .All subjects were classified in control group,inner-media thickened group ,thrombogenesis group and lumina stenosis group according to the mean IMT of carotid arteries,then compare the serum levels of VEGF and plasma levels of vWF among different groups ..Result : The IMT/r and serum levels of VEGF, plasma levels of vWF of patiends with hypertension are higher than those of control group and have statistical significance (p<0.05) .In patients with cerebral infarction ,the levels of VEGF, vWF and systolic peak velocity(SPV), end-diastolic velocity(EDV), pulse index(PI), resistance index(RI) are significantly higher than patient without secondary compliments(p<0.05).The IMT of carotid infarction is directly correlated with VEGF and vWF (p<0.05).Conclusion : Elderly patients with hypertension ,especial those with secondary cerebral infarction ,all experience the process of scleratheroma in carotid arteries ,and the serum levels of VEGF, plasma levels of.vWF of them are also increased .Measure the IMT and the dynamic parameters of carotid artery usinghigh-resolution ultrasonic equipment,analyze it associated with the serum^ plasma levels change of VEGF and vWF ,is helpful in anticipating cerebral infarction secondary to hypertension .
