| Objective: This study is aimed at observing the action of rosiglitazone on theplasma level of type 2 diabetic patients, to affirm the effectiveness of this drug on anti-atherosclerosis, showing rosiglitazone's cardiovascular protection apart from antidiabetic effects. Methods: From the outpatient service of General Hospital of Tianjin MedicalUniversity, 92 cases of Type II DM were selected. Apart from maintenance of antidiabetic program (sulphanylureas prescription or life-style intervention, rosiglitazone (4—8mg/d) was prescribed for treatment of 12 weeks. Plasma UsCRP of subjects were examined with immunoturbidimetric test. Data analysis was performed by software package (SPSS 11.5). After the trial, subjects were divided into 2 groups: treatment effective group and treatment ineffective group, according to the level of AHbAlc. Then, the association of rosiglitazone on anti-atherosclerosis and antidiabetic actions was justified via comparison study. Results: 1 , Comparison with pre-treatment showed that patients' level of bloodglucose, insulin and HbA1c significantly decreased, blood pressure lowered and lipid disorder improved after having a 12-weeks treatment with rosiglitazone (p<0.05).2, Comparison with pre-treatment plasma UsCRP level(6.87±0.25mg/L),the results showed that UsCRP level significantly dropped after treatment (5.94±0.23mg/L) . After adjustment by BMI, plasma UsCRP level was significantly decreased byl3.53 % (p<0.01)3 , Comparison of UsCRP level between 55 cases of treatment ineffectivegroup (HbAlc decrease less than 1 %) and 37 cases of treatment effective group (HbAlc decrease is 1 % or more), the statistic does not achieve the significance level, showing that AUsCRP is not associated with the observatory indicators of diabetesDiscussion: Rosiglitazone is effective in anti- atherosclerosis among patients oftreatment group no mater their blood glucose level was lowered or not, indicating that anti- atherosclerosis of rosiglitazone is independent of the antidiabetic effect... |
