Objective: To investigate the health-related quality of life of patients with premature ventricular extrasystole (PVE) undergoing radiofrequency catheter ablation.Methods: 58 inpatients (18 men, 40 women, mean age 40.8 years ± 10.0 years) who underwent a scheduled radiofrequency catheter ablation for the first time and fulfilled entry criteria, were enrolled. They were examined by short-form health survey with only 36 questions (SF-36) before the procedure and six months after that.Results: 1. Six months after radiofrequency catheter ablation, thescores of patients' health-related quality of life were higher than those before the procedure, and were similar to those of norm. 2. Before radiofrequency catheter ablation, the scores of physical function, role emotional, mental health in female patients were lower than that in male patients. After the procedure, those scores were similar, except for physical function.Conclusion: The health-related quality of life of patients with PVE were worse than normal, and especially there were more psychological symptom in female patients. Their health-related quality of life could be improved by radiofrequency catheter ablation .
