Objective: To explore risk factor and commonly and special physical signs of aortic dissection (AD). The significance of diagnosis for some secondary examination and therapy status had been summarized in order to enhance the recognization of AD and reduce misdiagnosis. Methods: Retrospective review of the clinical data of 106 AD patients from the January in 2001 to July in 2004 had been done. Results: The symptoms and physical signs of AD were different in 106 patients. Chest pain was commonly initial symptoms, but some patients' initial symptoms were untypical. The correlation between pain locus, clinical symptoms and the origin of AD had been found. The origin of AD was in ascending aorta when patients had signs involved in myocardial infarction by Chi-squared test, in or below descending aorta when patients had pain involved in shoulders, dorsum, waist, abdomen or lower limb. Hypertension was the most important factors leading to AD and mainly perils were systolic and average BP (P <0.05). The combination of echocardiography, CT and MRI help to quickly diagnosis and orientation. Conclusion: The symptoms and physical signs of AD are different. Clinical symptom and the origin of AD; the form of AD and hypertension had obvious relations.
