The Value Of Anterior Cervical Spine Locking Plate In The Treatment Of Cervical Disease And Trauma

Objective To evaluate the effect of anterior cervical spine locking platein anterior cervical decompression and fusionMethods 234 patients with cervical spine disease and trauma weretreated by anterior cervical spine locking plate fusion,among which 189patients got followed-up,including 87 cases with cervical spine fracture /dislocation;80 cases with cervical syndrome(include cervical disc herniation);20 cases with extension injury of cervical spinal cord;1 case withcervicalvertebral body tumor;1 case with tuberculosis of cervical vertebrae .Thefollowed-up period ranged from 5 months to 85 months,the average period offollowed-up was 34 months.The neurologic improvement,the bone graft fusionrate,maintenance of intervertebral height and cervical physical curvature wereobserved.Results Solid fusion were obtained in all followed-up cases ,the fusionrate was 100%;No implants breakage was found;Three cases with deflexionof plate,one case with looseness of screw, a screw in disc were found in twocases;Temporary hoarseness were found in 4 cases,all of which recoveredcompletely after symptomatic treatment;4 cases with orthopedic of adjacentsegment. The rate of postoperative neurologic function improvement wasobviously . The intervertebral height and cervical physical curvature weremaintained well.Conclusion Using cervical spine locking plate in operation of anteriorcervical spine could improved immediate stability of the cervical spine andincreased the fusion rate of bone graft and effectively maintain intervertebralheight, physical curvature.But we should strictly control the indication ofoperation and improve accurate procedure of operation to decrease or avoidthe occurrence of complication.
