Objectives: To investigate the expression of nuclear factor- κ B(NF- κ B) and cell adhesion molecular during myocardial ischemia-reperfusion rabbits and the cardioprotective role of L-Arginine.Methods: 30 healthy rabbits were randomly divided into five groups. A model of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury(I/R group) and administration of L-Arginine was reproduced in rabbits. Expression of nuclear factor- κ B and intercellular adhesion molecular-1(ICAM-1) and vascular cellular adhesion molecular-1(VCAM-1) were observed by in situ hybridization. Results: The percentage of positive myocardial cells expression of NF- k B and ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 in early L-Arginine group before ischemia-reperfusion were (14.17 ± 1.13)% and (16.17 ± 3.76)% and (15.67±1.51) %,they were significantly lower than those in I/R group (38.67 ± 3.56) % and (46.00 ± 1.41)% and (40.83 ± 1.94)% respectively, P<0.01 ,but not significantly defferent than those in control group (12.83 ± 1.47) % and (12.72 ± 1.12)% and (12.67 ± 2.16) %respectively ,P>0.05.They were significantly reduced than those I/R after 30min given L-Arg group (37.33 ± 2.25) %and (38.33 ± 1.21) %and (38.33 ± 0.82) % respectively,P<0.01.ConcIusion:Early administration of L-Arginine can downregulate the expression of nuclear factor- k B and ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 and protect myocardial from ischemia-reperfusion injury.
