Objective:Neointimal hyperplasia is a pivotal problem after coronarystenting for coronary heart disease(CHD);According to the studies onmagnesium,it can be used to improve the symptoms of CHD; To investigatethe effect of magnesium on stent restenosis of rabbit inferior abdominalaorta after stenting,we observed the effect of magnesium on the serumlevel of ET,TXB2,AT-II,hs-CRP and LDL-C and the effect of magnesiumon neointimal hyperplasia in 20 rabbits. Methods: Twenty rabbits were randomized to divided into two groups andall accepted stenting by right iliac arteries. One group was treated withintravenous 25% MgSO4 (300mg/Kg) for 14 days, the other group was controlgroup which treated with intravenous 10% glucose for 14 days.Beforestenting the serum level of ET,TXB2,A-II,hs-CRP and LDL-C weremeasured, and repeated it after 14-day treatment. On the other hand, allstents sites were analyzed morphomentrically on the end of trial. Results: To control group ,therapy of MgSO4 reduced the level of plasmaET,TXB2,AT-II,hs-CRP and LDL-C(P<0.05). The size of the lumenCSA is2.25±0.13 in MgSO4 group vs 2.10±0.14 in glucose(P<0.05), The size ofthe intimalCSA was smaller in MgSO4 group than glucose group(0.83±0.12vs 0.96±0.06 P<0.05)and there was no significantly difference for theMedialCSA(0.53±0.14 vs 0.48±0.12,P>0.05).Conclusions:The treatment of MgSO4 can reduce the reaction ofinflammation after inferior abdominal aorta stenting and the neointimalhyperplasia in a rabbit model.
