Ainr.To study microvesssel density(MVD) and the expression of vascularendothelial growth factor(VEGF) and its receptors(flt-l,KDR) in normalovaries,benign ovarian tumors and epithelial ovarian carcinomas,as well as thecorrelations with several clinicopathologic and demonstrable prognosticparameters.Method:The representative paraffin sections were selected and 30 specimens ofnormal ovaries,30 specimens of benign ovarian tumors and 52 specimens ofepithelial ovarian carcinomas were tested by immunohistochemical technica withantibody against VEGF,flt-l and KDR.CD34 was used to detect vascularendothelial cell.Results:1 .The MVD in benign ovarian tumors was significantly higher than its in normalovaries(t=5.741, P<0.05),and the MVD in epithelial ovarian carcinomas wassignificantly higher than its in benign ovarian tumors(t=2.620,P<0.05).Inepithelial ovarian carcinomas,the MVD was significantly different with differentclinical stage(F=4.816,P<0.05) and different ascites fluid volume (t=3.641,P<0.05).The patients with higher MVD(≥10/HP) had unfavourable prognosis(Log-rank,P=0.0395).2.The expression of VEGF,flt-l,KDR in epithelial ovarian carcinomas weresignificantly higher than them in benign ovarian tumors and normal ovaries( x~2v\=44. 354, P<0.05; x2t =34.499, P<0.05; x2k=35. 034, P<0.05).In epithelialovarian carcinomas, VEGF staining was located in the cytoplast of tumor cell ;flt-l and KDR staining were located in the cytoplast and on the cell membrane of both endothelial cells and tumor cells.3.In epithelial ovarian carcinomas,the expression of VEGF was significantly different with different clinical stage and histological grade( F=4.539,P<0.05; F=6.091,P<0.05 respectively).The patients with higher expression of VEGF had unfavourable prognosis than them with lower or negative expression(Log-rank, P=0.0247).4. The expressions of VEGF,flt-l and KDR in the patients with more ascites fluid volume(≥ 500ml) were significantly higher than them in the patients with less ascites (tv=3.030,P<0.05; tt=2.149,P<0.05; tk=2.483,P<0.05,respectively).5.
