Objective The head and neck tumor is one of the serious diseaseswhich threat human being, especially nasopharyngeal carcinoma andlaryngeal cancer. Metastasis has not been solved in the therapy of thehead and neck tumor. Metastasis of tumor is related to many kinds offactors. With the development of study on molecular biology , metastasissuppressor gene is gradually payed close attention. Metastasis suppressorgene may be helpful in the therapy and the predicting of prognosis for eachpatient. In this paper, the expression of KAI1/CD82 and MRP-1/CD9 weredetected with immunohistochemical assays in nasopharyngeal carcinomaand laryngeal cancer. The correlation of the expression of the two genesand their clinicopathological features was investigated. Methods Immunohistochemical methods (SABC and SP) wereused to examine the expression of CD82 and CD9 inparaffin-embedded specimens in 36 patiens with nasopharyngealcarcinoma ,41 laryngeal cancer, two control groups and 23 lymph nodemetastasis of laryngeal cancer. The results were compared. Results 1 .The expression of KAI1/CD82: ①The expressionlevel of KAI1/CD82 protein in nasopharyngeal carcinoma and laryngealcancer was lower than that in their control group(P<0.0001 and P<0.05,respectively); ② Statistic difference was found between KAI1/CD82 inprimary lesions and metastatic lesions(P<0.05); ③ The expression ofKAI1/CD82 was closely correlated with lymph node metastasis(P<0.01);④Their expressions were not correlated with age, sex, clinical staging, pathological differentiation(all P>0.05) in the two kinds of tumor. 2 .The expression of MRP-1/CD9: ①The expressionlevel of MRP-1/CD9 protein in nasopharyngeal carcinoma and laryngealcancer was lower than that in their control group(P=0.0048 and P<0.0001,respectively); ② Statistic difference was found between MRP-1/CD9 inprimary lesions and metastatic lesions(P<0.05); ③ The expression ofMRP-1/CD9 were closely correlated with lymph node metastasis(P<0.0001); ④ Their expressions were not correlated with age, sexdifferentiation(P>0.05, respectively) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma andlaryngeal cancer; ⑤ The expression of MRP-1/CD9 in laryngeal cnacerwas closely correlated with clinical staging, pathological differentiation(P=0.0014,P =0.0491, respectively). Conclusions KAI1/CD82 and MRP-1/CD9 may play an importantrole in development and metastasis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma andlaryngeal cancer; CD9 may play a role in the malignant progression inlaryngeal cancer; and they may be used as potential markers for metastasisand prognosis in the two kinds of tumor . |
