Iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) is a serious problem of public health which attracts almost all countries in the world. Goiter is the most obvious consequence, but others do more damage, particularly effects on the developing brain. In 1990 most countries in the world promise to eliminate IDD by 2000. In 2000, The three main indication of goitre rate, median of urinary iodine and iodized salt qualified rate in Chongqing have not been approached the state eliminating IDD standard goal.Objective: To investigate the state of Iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) in Chongqing, to conclute the experience and put forward strategy for prevention and control.Method: In this article, the method of PPS was used to test 8-10 years children in 30 areas of goitre rate, urinary iodine, iodized salt qualified rate in inhabitants and healthy education survey of students, We studied the related indication.Results: In 2002, the goiter rate of children aged 8~12 was 14. 18% palpation and 13. 5% by B-ultrasonograghy in Chongqing. Compared with 1999. The rate of Chongqing fell 40.29% and 42.75%; the coverage rate of iodized salt and edible rate of eligible iodized salt were improved and steady. The areas of state of severe illness, lower edible rate and non-iodized salt still existed in Chongqing.Conclusions /The prevention and cure of chongqing IDD gets a good achievement and there are still many problems exist. We have made up with many strategies for our work.
