Objective: To study the value of MRI in staging and therapy of cervicalcarcinomaMaterials and Methods: The 28 patients enrolled in this trial all camefrom the in-patients with cervical carcinoma of West China Second University Hospital between June 2004 and February 2005, aging from 29 to 68(medium age, 47.5). All were confirmed by biopsy and detected with MRI before operation. All patients underwent operation, had intact operation record and pathologic record. The result of clinical staging and MRI staging was compared with postoperative pathologic report, respectively. Results: The preoperative staging of 28 cases was performed, 10 of whichwere coincident with pathologic staging. The accuracy was 35.71%. Twenty cases of MRI staging were coincident with pathologic staging, its accuracy was 71.43%. Pathologic observation confirmed six cases of lymph node metastasis, MRI found four of them. The accuracy of MRI in predictinglymph node metastasis was 92.86%. The result of large pathologic section was compared with MRI, the same result was found in 11 cases. Conclusions: 1. Compared with pathologic examination, the accuracy ofclinical staging is 35.71%.2. The accuracy of MRI staging is 71.43%. For predicting lymph node metastasis, its accuracy is 92.86%.3. MRI has more advantage in the differentiation of stage I and stage II cervical carcinoma. Its accuracy is 71.43%.4. MRI is helpful to raise the preoperative staging accuracy of cervical carcinoma.
