Purpose: As a common disease in stomotology, trigeminal neuralgia (TR) has acquired a wide concern. Although many different features, such as etiology, pathology, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment and prognosis et al, have been reported since trigeminal neuralgia first described by Johannes Bausch in 1672, its etiology still need analysis. The association between estrogen receptor gene polymorphisms and primary trigeminal neuralgia was studied in this research. Methods: By polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP), ER gene polymorphism was analyzed in 20 TR patients and 20 control individuals, and the distribution of ER genotype was compared in TR group and control group. Results ER allelic frequencies of X, x and P, p alleles were 0.25,0.75; 0.313,0.687 and 0.111,0.889; 0.278,0.722 in TR group and control group respectively. There was no significant difference in frequencies of allele and genotype in Xbaâ…  or Pvuâ…¡ polymorphism or Xbaâ…  with Pvuâ…¡ polymorphisms together between TR group and control group (P>0.05). But the genotypic distribution of Xx or PpXx in TR group is higher than control group, but it is contrary to xx, ppxx or Ppxx in TR group and control group. Conclusion Maybe Xbaâ…  or Pvuâ…¡ polymorphism is related to TR. It can continue being studied more widely and progressively.
