Objective: To investigate the significance of the dynamic changes of serum IL-6 and IL-10 in patients with acute pancreatitis(AP).Methods: Serum IL-6 and IL-10 were measured by ELISA on the lst,2nd,3rd, 7th and 15th day in 42 cases of acute pancreatitis (26 mild acute pancreatitis and 16 severe acute pancreatitis), and 20 healthy volunteers were taked as controls. Results: 1. The serum levels of IL-6 and IL-10 in AP patients were significantly higher than those in control group(p<0.05).Their levels were in high peak on the 1st day (74.31 ± 8.87 pg/ml, 67.23 ± 7.51 pg/ml, respectively) . The serum levels of IL-6 and IL-10 were declined on the 2nd, 3rd and 7th day but still higher than those in control group. 2. The serum levels of IL-6 in MAP and SAP patients were significantly higher than those in control group(p<0.05). Their levels were in high peak on the 1st day (59.08 + 7.89 pg/ml ,88.93 + 10.97 pg/ml, respectively). The serum levels of IL-6 were declined on the 2nd, 3rd, 7th and 15th day. The serum levels of IL-6 were significantly different between the 1 st day and the other days. The serum levels of IL-6 were significantly different between MAP and SAP patients . 3. The serum levels of IL-10 in MAP and SAP patients were significantly higher than those in control group (p<0.05). Their levels were in high peak on the 1st day (80.56 + 8.37 pg/ml ,57.21 + 6.43pg/ml, respectively). The serum levels of IL-10 were declined on the 2nd, 3rd, 7thand 15th day.The serum levels of IL-10 were significantly different between the 1st day and the other days. The serum levels of IL-10 were significantly different between MAP and SAP patients .Conclusions: IL-6 and IL-10 are involved in the pathological progression of AP and are important factors of tissue injury. The measurement of the serum IL-6 and IL-10 is contributed to evaluating the severity and prognosis in SAP.
