Objective: To establish the transection of the cervical sympathetic trunk (TCST) on guinea pigs to imitate stellate ganglion block (SGB),to explore the antagonistic effects of SGB on ototoxicity of gentamycin(GM).Methods: 40 healty guinea pigs were randomly divided into four groups(10 in each group): operation group with right TCST operation, saline group with right TCST + saline intramuscularly injected (im),experiment group with right TCST operation + GM im, sham group with sham operation + GM im. The changes of weight, PR rate and auditory brainstem response(thresholds of ABR) are monitored before the operation, before and 1,2,3 weeks of gentamycin or saline im, respectively. Results: â‘ At 2,3 week of gentamycin im, the weights of operation group and saline group increased significantly as compared with experiment operation(P<0.05), whereas that of sham operation decreased significantly (P<0.05).â‘¡The PR rate of sham group decreased more significantly than experiment group at 2,3 week of gentamycin im(P<0.05).â‘¢ABR thresholds of experiment group decreased significantly as compared with sham group at 3 week of gentamycin im(P<0.01), whereas increased significantly as compared with operation group and saline group(P<0.05). The two sides of ears have no difference. Conclusion: right TCST has no influence on the normal hearing of guinea pigs, and right TCST can prevent the ototoxicity of gentamycin.
