Objective: In order to study the effects and the mechanisms of Mn on theimmunological system of the workers contacting with Mn ,and to probe the early diagnostics endpoints for the toxicity of Mn.Method: 33 workers who had exposed to Mn from a Mn refinery and 32 builders ascontrols were included in this study. Information of investigation table and neural reflectance were collected in the question-answer manner. Samples of their hair, urine, blood were collected for further studying. We employed flow cytometer to detected the T-cell and NK-cell, atomatic biochemistry instrment for immunoglobullin, atomic absorption method for Mn, Zn, Cu and.Fe .The statistic software was SPSS 10.0Results: There were not clear difference (p > 0.05) in their ages, sex, degree ofculture, smoking between the investigated group and the controlled group, which were mainly composed of men. The numbers in the investigated groups, who believed that they have fatigue ,memory decline, indulge in sleep, palpitation and four limbs anaesthesia etc., were greater than those of the controls (p < 0.05), and there no difference in the observed neural reflectance between the two groups. The immunoglobulin, in particular IgG and IgA, decreased in the blood samples of the workers from the Mn refinery (p < 0.05). The numbers of CD3, CD4, CD45 and NK cells and the value of CD4/CD8 declined clearly in the individuals contacted with Mn, even the reverse value of CD4/CD8 had been observed in some individuals, compared with the controls (p < 0.05). But there were no significant difference in the numbers of white cell between the two groups. Mn, Fe and Zn in the samples of their hair, urine and blood increased (p < 0.05), but Cu in their hair decreased clearly, the value of...
