Objective: Mta1(metastasis associated gene 1), Tiam1(lymphoma invasion andmetastasis 1) gene are regarded as the latest gene which relate to tumor metastasis.Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is malignancy which metastasises easily. To study themechanism of nasopharyngeal carcinoma invasion and metastasis ,we havedetected expression of the Mta1, Tiam1 mRNA in nasopharyngeal carcinomatissue and discussed the mechanism of the Mta1, Tiam1 gene in invasion andmetastasis of malignancy. Methods: The Mta1 mRNA were detected on 43 cases of nasopharyngealcarcinoma tissue and 20 cases of normal nasopharyngeal tissue to use reversetranscription polymeras chain (RT-PCR) technique. The Tiam1 mRNA weredetected on 41 cases of nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissue and 20 cases of normalnasopharyngeal tissue to use reverse transcription polymeras chain (RT-PCR)technique.Results: Average expression of the Mta1 gene in nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissueis higher than in normal nasopharyngeal tissue(p=0.000).The frequency of Mta1overexpression was 18.2%(2/11) in â… -â…¡stage of nasopharyngeal carcinoma,38.9%(7/18) in â…¢stage,71.4%(10/14) in â…£stage, overexpression amongclinical staging was very significant(P=0.0243; The frequency of Mta1overexpression was 11.1%(1/9) in T1 stage,27.27%(3/11) in T2 stage,64.71%(11/17)in T3 stage,66.67%(4/6) in T4 stage, overexpression between T staging was muchsignificant( P=0.0039);The frequency of Mta1 overexpression was11.1%(1/9)inN0 stage,33.3%(4/12) in N1 stage,58.33%(7/12) in N2 stage and 70.00%(7/10)in N3 stage, overexpression between N staging was very significant( P=0.0052).Thefrequency of Mta1 overexpression was 44.2% in nasopharyngeal carcinomas.Average expression of the Tiam1 gene in nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissue ishigher than in normal nasopharyngeal tissue(p=0.000).The frequency of Tiam1overexpression was 18.2%(2/11) in â… -â…¡stage of nasopharyngeal carcinoma,43.2%(7/16) in â…¢stage,71.3%(10/14) in â…£stage, overexpression brtweenclinical staging was very significant(P=0.0288);The frequency of Tiam1overexpression was 0 (0/8) in T1 stage,36.4%(4/11) in T2 stage,62.5%(10/16) in T3stage and 83.3%(5/6) in T4 stage, overexpression beteen T staging was vetysignificant(P=0.0007);The frequency of Tiam1 overexpression was 56.3%(18/32)in patients with lymph node metastasis,11.1%(1/9) in patients without lymph nodemetastasis, overexpression between them was very significant(P=0.0238).Thefrequency of Tiam1 overexpression was 46.34% in nasopharyngeal carcinomas.Concludes: Our data suggests that the overexpression of the Mta1,Tiam1 genecorrelates invasion and metastasis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.Mta1,Tiam1 genewill become valuable prognosis targets to judge invasion and metastasis ofnasopharyngeal carcinoma.
