Objective: To investigate the serum concentration and urine concentration of RANTES (regulated upon activation normal T cell expressed and secreted protein) of lupus nephritis and their relationships with pathologic manifestations and SLEDAI (systemic lupus erythematosus disease activity index). Methods: Serum level and urine level of RANTES in 60 patients with LN and 20 controls were studied by ELISA. And we also analyzed the possible association between the serum level and urine level of RANTES with the clinical and pathologic manifestations. Results: 1 The serum concentration of RANTES in patients with LN was higher than that of control groups (P<0.01). 2 We could not calculate the urine concentration of RANTES in patients with LN from its OD and the formula of standard curve. 3 The serum concentration of RANTES of WHO class â…£LN was higher than that of other pathologic classes (P<0.01). 4 There was no correlation between the serum concentration of RANTES with proteinuria (P>0.05). 5 Serum RANTES was positively correlated with LN renal activity index (RAI)(r=0.621,P<0.01). Serum RANTES had no correlations with patients'age, SLEDAI, Scr, C3 and ESR (P>0.05). 6 The multi-factors stepwise regression analysis indicated that serum RANTES was positively correlated with RAI (r=0.621,P<0.01), but had no correlation with TIL( P>0.05). 7 There were no significant differences in serum RANTES, clinical and pathologic data between patients with therapy and patients without therapy. Conclusion: 1 Serum concentration of RANTES is elevated in patients with LN. Serum concentration of RANTES of WHO class â…£LN is higher than that of other pathologic classes. 2 Serum concentration of RANTES in patients with LN is positively correlated with the degree of renal pathologic activity. 3 In patients who are treated with glucocorticoids or glucocorticoids combined with cyclophosphamide but whose disease is still active, serum concentration of RANTES are elevated. 4 Serum concentration of RANTES in patients with LN may have no correlation with SLEDAI,Scr,C3,,ESR and TIL. |
