| Objective : To observe the Ruan-Mai-Jiang - Zhi- Capsule's (RMJZ) effect on blood lipid and atherosclerosis (As) of apolipoprotein E- knockout [ ApoE(-/-) ]mice. Methods: Six - week old ApoE(-/-) mice were divided randomly into four groups : Hyperlipidimia control group (fed with saline) , Lovastatin group (fed with Lovastatin), Xuezhikang group (fed with Xuezhikang), RMJZ group (fed with RMJZ). Six - week old heathy mice (C57BL/6J mice ) were the normal control group (fed with saline ). At week 24, the serum lipid TC, TG, LDL-C and HDL-C were measured, and the aortas were preceded in the formalin for morphological research and photograph analysis. Results: TC, TG, HDL-C and LDL-C of Hyperlipidimia control group were significantly increased compared with normal control group ; while those in RMJZ group, Xuezhikang group and Lovastatin group were significantly decreased compared with hyperlipidimia control group. TC, TG, HDL-C and LDL-C of normal control group had no significant difference with those of hyperlipidimia control group . The results of pathomorphology suggested that RMJZ , Xuezhikang and Lovastatin can decrease the area of aortic lipid plaque and reduced the pathological changes and the degree on hyperlipidemia . And RMJZ's effect was the best . Conclusions : RMJZ can lower the serum cholesterol and relieve the As lesions of the ApoE(-/-) mice .
