ObjectiveTo study the expressions and the clinical significance of E - cadherin ( E -cad)and β -catenin (β-cat) in bladder transitional cell carcinoma(BTCC).MethodsImmunohistochemical method was used to detect E - cad and β - cat expressions in 60 cases of bladder transitional cell carcinoma.ResultsThe abnormal expression rate of E - cad and β - cat was63. 3% and55.0% respectively. Expression of E - cad and β - cat were concomitantly either normal or abnormal in tumors, the correlation between E - cad and β - cat expression being highly significant( P < 0. 05 ). The abnormal expression rates of E -cad and β - cat were30. 0% .65. 0% .95. 0% and25. 0% .55. 0% .85. 0% in G1 ,G2 ,G3 of bladder transitional cell carcinoma respectively and were 30. 4% . 83. 8% and30. 4% .70. 0% in Ta - T1 ,T24 tumors. Both the gene expressions were related to the tumor grade clinical stage, and prognosis (P<0.05).ConclusionsAbnormal espressions of E - cad and β - cat is related to malignant tendency of BTCC, and could be used as a marker of malignant potential and prognosis...
