Background and AimThromboembolic disease is a well-recognized but very uncommon complication of ulcerative colitis. Thromboembolic complications during the course of ulcerative colitis are infrequent but are increasing in rencent years. Histological and hematologic studies suggest that thrombotic mesenteric microvascular occlusion is involved in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease. The mechanisms of the increased risk of thrombosis are not well understood: although severalcoagulation abnormalities have been described in ulcerative colitis patients, it is not clear whether they actually contribute to hypercoagulation or whether they are nonspecific markers of inflammation. Antiphospholipid antibodies (anticardiolipin antibodies and/or lupus anticoagulant) have recently been associated with an increased risk of thrombosis, particularly cerebrovascular disease in young patients. The most common clinical presentation is deep vein thrombosis with pulmonary embolism with arterial thrombosis being rare. I report the case of a 55-yr-old female with severe ulcerative colitis at first attack who developed pulmonary thromboembolism. No risk factors for thrombosis or coagulation abnormalities were observed. The aims of the present work were to assess the etiopathogenesis, presentation, treatment and prophylaxis of the thromboembolic complications of ulcerative colitis.Clinical MaterialI report the case of a 55-yr-old female with severe ulcerative colitis at first attack who developed pulmonary thromboembolism , who was suffered from bellyache and diarrhea with blood stool for 4 months and worsing for 20 days. The intestinal endoscopy and pathology suggest that ulcerative colitis is certain. The patient suffered from dyspnea and heart-throb on August 2 nd . At last the patient died. The experts made a discussion and concluded that the patient presented with pulmonary thromboembolism.ConclusionThromboembolic complications during the course of ulcerative colitis are infrequent but are increasing in rencent years. Thromboembolic complications occurred more ofen when patients of ulcerative colitis getting worse. The motallity of Thromboembolic complications is one of the most common reasons .Heparin for therapy of ulcerative colitis, therapy of a concomitant phenomenon or indication of pathophysiology may be an effective therapy.
