Objective: To describe the epidemiological characteristics and related factors of SARS cases in Hebei province. To study the influential factors of the length of stay(LOS) of SARS cases in Hebei province. To study the possible risk factors of death of SARS cases in Hebei province. Methods: The SARS cases all-over the Hebei province were collected, and a specialized questionnaire was designed,of which included primary medical-care seeking, symptoms and signs, laboratory test, treatment, termination etc. A database of the information collected from those questionnaires was developed by Excel, collected and analyzed by SPSS11.5 software package. The influential factors of the length of stay(LOS) of SARS cases were described and analyzed by SPSS11.5 software package, which included the patient's sex, age, termination, the time of final diagnosis, the length of stay(LOS), the interval between morbility and hospitalization, the body temperature in hospitalization, the chest X-ray abnormality, the history of direct contact with confirmed SARS cases, the hormone and traditional Chinese medicine administed, the chronic baseline diseases before. Univariate measurement data was tested by two-sample test, correlation analysis of univariate was tested by simple correlation, and multifactorial analysis was tested by multiple linear stepwise regression. In addition, the cases of pneumonia(or pulmonary infection) from two hospitals in Shijizhuang city were collected and a specialized questionnaire was designed, which included primary medical-care seeking, symptoms and signs, laboratory test, treatment, termination etc. A database with the information of those questionnaires was developed by Excel, and the influential factors of the length of stay(LOS) were analyzed by SPSS11.5 software package and compared with those of SARS . The possible risk factors of death of the SARS cases were analyzed by SPSS11.5 software package, which included the patient's sex, age, termination, the time of final diagnosis, the length of stay(LOS), the interval between morbility and hospitalization, the body temperature in hospitalization, the chest X-ray abnormality, obvious history of direct contact with confirmed SARS cases, the hormone and traditional Chinese medicine used, chronic baseline diseases before. Univariate measurement data was tested by two-sample test. Univariate enumeration data was tested by fourfold table chi-square test. Results: There were 215 confirmed SARS cases in Hebei province totally. The first case was reported on March 23, 2003. The number of cases increased from the first ten days of April, formed the peak from the middle ten days to the first ten days of May, and decreased from the middle ten days of May, the last case was reported on May 22.The time of the peak lasted in Hebei was later than that in Guangdong province and Beijing city. There were cases in each of the 11 cities in Hebei province, which were described in Baoding, Shijiazhuang, Tangshan, Zhangjikou city mainly. The peasants (worker) were the largest part of the cases, secondly were workers, university students, middle school students and medical personnel. While the numbers of the medical personnel in Hebei were less than those in Guangdong, Beijing, Shanxi, etc. There were no obvious differences between the cases in Guangdong , Beijing , Shanxi and the cases in Hebei province about some informations such as clinical characteristics , treating ,etc. The patient's age, the interval between morbility and hospitalization, the body temperature in hospital were normal distribution(p>0.05). The time of final diagnosis, the length of stay(LOS) were normal distribution (p>0.05) after logarithmic transformation(p>0.05).The shortest length of stay(LOS) was 0 because the patients were dead just as been confirmed, while the longest length of stay was 60 days. The different termination, hormone treatment, and abnormal chest X-ray were influential factors of the length of stay(LOS) (p<0.05). The relationship among the time of final diagnosis, the body temperature in...
