Objective To investigate the role of apoptosis of the peripheral blood mononuclear cell(PBMC) and gene modulation in the pathogenesis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus(SLE). Methods The early apoptosis rate of PBMC of active SLE patients and healthy controls were measured by Annexin V-FITC staining method and flow cytometry (FCM) . The serum level of C3 was detected quantitatively by turbidimentry, anti- nuclear antibodies were examined by EUROASSAY. Expressions of Bcl-2, Bax, p53, c-myc proteins were detected by FCM. All the data were analyzed by SPSS 11.0 statistics software . Results The early apoptosis rate of PBMC of active SLE patients was significantly higher than that of the controls. There was a significant negative correlation between the apoptosis rate of SLE and the serum level of C3. The apoptosis rate in active SLE patients with more than 2 kinds of autoantibodies was higher than that with only 1 kind of autoantibody. Expressions of Bcl-2, Bax,...
