Transurethral Resection Prostate By Modified Blandy's Methods Treat Large-sized And High-risk Benign Prostate Hyperplasia

Abstract/Summary:
ObjectiveTo seek the proper methods to treat large-sized and high-risk benign prostate hyperplasia and evaluate the efficiency of transurethral resection prostate(TURP) by modified Blandy's methods.MethodTo treat serious benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) 49 cases applying TURP by modified Blandy's methods and Blandy's methods from 1996 to 2003 and evaluate operative time, bleeding during operation, blood transfusion volume and Preoperative and postoperative international prostate symptom score (I-PSS) etc.ResultThe procedure has been successful and no patient experienced TUR syndrome. By Blandy's methods the mean weight of the resected prostate tissue was 56g, the mean operation time was 85 minutes, the mean bleeding during operation was 282ml, the mean blood transfusion volume was 400ml. The I-PSS was decreased from 27±3.3 score to 11±1.5 score with good results postoperation(P<0.05). By modified Blandy's methods the mean weight of the resected prostate tissue was 57g, the mean operation time was 70 minutes, the mean bleeding during operation was 210ml, the mean blood transfusion volume was 300ml. The I-PSS was decreased from 28±4.0 score to 10±1.7 score with good results postoperation(P < 0.05). The results of TURP by modified Blandy's methods were less operative time, less bleeding during operation than TURP by Blandy's methods, the differences were significantly(P<0.05).
