PURPOSETo evaluate the effects and safety of treatment by embolization of the uterine artery, in women with uterine leiomyoma.MATERIALS AND METHODE35 patients of uterine leiomyoma were treated by uterine artery embolization ( UAE). All patients, divided into two groups by the leiomyoma volume lower or over 150cm , were followed for 3 to 6 months to observe the changes of leiomyoma size and the menses resumption. Ovarian function were also estimated by observing oviarian hormones for 3 to 6 months after UAE . thirty - five patients undergoing UAE for symptomatic leiomyoma had blood samples obtained on day 3 of a menstrual cycle before UAE and on day 3 during menstrual cycles 3 and 6 months after treatment. Analysis of variance was used to detect differences in FSH and LH levels before and after UAE.RESULTSBilateral embolization of the uterine arteries was performed in 33 women, unilateral embolization was in 2 women. In 29 symptomatic women, clinical improvement was observed in 25 (86. 2% ) patients. There was no difference between two groups. The larger dominant leiomyoma volume was associated with a...
