ObjectiveTo study the ability, the influence on hearing and histopathological findings of CO2 Laser myringotomy and to examine whether CO2 laser myringotomy might be an alternative to a ventilation tube.MethodsWe performed CO2 laser round or kidney - shaped myringotomy on the left ears and incisional round or kidney - shaped myringotomy with a knife on the right ears of 20 guinea pigs on the same day and compare closure rates and histopathological findings of CO2 laser myringotomy to those of incisional myringotomy. In the third team including 5 guinea pigs a perforation was made straightly on the left ear and after water injection into the middle ear cavity on the right ear in CO2 laser with different power to the guinea pigs tympanic membrane.ResultsThe patency of CO2 laser myringotomies was significantly longer than that of similar incisional myringotomies. The patency of kidney - shaped laser myringotomies was longer than that of round ones. Inflammation was found in the CO2 laser myringotomy group. When the tymparic membrane was irradiated for large power of CO2 laser , the cochlea could be damaged. Water injection into the middle ear cavity may avoid or alleviate the impairment caused by CO2 laser .
