Objective:To study a preservation solution containing histamine H1 receptor antagonist and its protective effect on vein graft. Methods: The residual parts of greater saphenous vein (GSV) taken from 40 patients underwent coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) were entered the study. Each segment was preserved in Ketotifen Papaverine Ringers Solution (Ket group) and routine Papaverine Ringers Solution (Pap group) for one hour respectively, the expression of AM(VCAM-1, ICAM-1, P-selectin and E-selectin) were measured; and the dose of nitric oxid (NO) synthesized and released per unit area were examined; another two segments taken from each GSV were incubated in 30% calf serum(group A) and in the same serum but containing ketotifen(100μg/ml) (group B) respectively for fourteen days, smooth muscle cell(SMC) proliferation index was measured. Results: The expression of VCAM-1 and ICAM-1 in Ket group was obviously lower than that in Pap group(P<0.01), but the expression of P-selectin and E-selectin made no difference in two groups ; the dose of NO synthesized and released per unit area was much higher in Ket group than that in Pap group (P<0.01);the SMC proliferation index in group B was obviously lower than that in group A (P<0.01).Conclusions: This new preservation solution containing ketotifen may maximally...
