Malignant mesothelioma (MM) is a kind of malignant primary tumor originating from mesothelial cells, it is highly aggressive and invariably fatal. The objective of this study is to examine the relationship between expression of p16, p53, PCNA, VEGF and behavior of MM, the study of the respective clinical pathologic parameters and the co-relationships of prognosis were analyzed. This will do help to the treatment and evaluation of prognosis of MM. Materials and Methods:Sixty MM samples dated from January in 1984 to January in 2004 were from Department of Pathology, General hospital of PLA. The tissues were used for analysis of exprssion of p16, p53, PCNA and VEGF. S-P immunohistochemistry techniques were utilized. The Cox proportional hazard model was also performed to evaluate the independent prognostic value, Kaplan-Meier and life table were used for survival analysis. Results:(1)The positive immunostaining rate for pl6 was 33.3% (20/60, With the increasing of clinical stages, the expression of pl6 protein was decreasing (P<0.05) . Patients in the positive-expression group obviously survived longer than those in negative-expression group (P<0.05).(2)The positive immunostainning rate for PCNA was 93.3% (56/60) , and high-expression rate was 61.7% (37/60) . Patients in the low-expression group obviously survived longer than those in high-expression group (P<0.05).(3)The positive immunostaining rate for p53 was 65.0% (39/60). Patients in the negative-expression group seems survived longer than those in positive-expression group (P>0.05) .(4)The positive immunostaining rate for VEGF was. 66.7% (40/60). Patients in the negative-expression group obviously survived longer than those in positive-expression group (P<0.05) .(5)The high coincidence rate for p53 and VEGF was observed. There were 32...
