PrefaceThrombopoietin (TPO)is megakaryocyte growth and development factor. It was found in 1958. It was coloned at first by De Sauvage in 1994. Many people began to do a lot of researches on it after that. They found that serum TPO levels was very valued on experting persons and directing cure . To measure serum thrombopoietin (TPO) levels in thrombocytopenic conditions of aplastic anemia (AA) and acute leukemia ( AL) and explore the clinical significiance of the changes of TPO levels.MethodsSerum TPO concentration was determined in AA ( n = 25 ) , AL( n = 50) (These people were devided in two parts by wheather accepting chemotherapy or not , every part was 50% ,n =25) and normal controls ( n = 15 ) by using an enzyme - linked immumosorbent assay ( ELISA).ResultsSerum TPO level in AA patients was much higer than that in normal con-trols[ (1864. 63 356. 66pg/ml) Vs(84. 23 14. 90 pg/ml) ,P <0. 01 ] ;and serum Tpo level in AL which accepting chemotherapy ago was much higer than that in normal controls[ (233. 50 57. 89 pg/ml ) Vs(84. 23 14. 90 pg/ml ) ,P <0. 01 ] ;and in those after the end of chemotherapy was (944. 55 258.48 pg/ml) , (P <0. 01) ;and the later was much higer than the before ( P <0. 01). The serum TPO level in A A patients was much higer than that in AL. [ (1864.63 356. 66 pg/ml) vs (589.02 404.16), P <0.01 ]. Furthermore, there was an inverse correlation between TPO concentration and platelet count in AA and AL pations( AA = -0.994, AL(before) = -0.961 , AL(after) = - 0. 979 P < 0. 01). There was the same conclusion between TPO concentration and megakaryocyte in bone marrow (AA = -0.844, -yAL = -0.931 , P<0.01).ConclusionSerum TPO level was regulated by platelet count and megakaryocyte in bone marrow . It is high in thrombocytopenia due to thrombopoietic failure.
