Objective: Detection the expression of transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF β 1), matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP1) and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP1) in liver fibrosis tissues may offer more important molecular biologic data to the development of liver fibrosis. Methods: 70 liver fibrosis specimens were detected by immunohistochemistry (S-P). Results: 1. The increased expressions of TGF β1 and TIMP1 were parallel to the degrees of fibrosis (r=0.9121, P<0.01; r=0.9274, P<0.01, respectively). 2. No parallel relation was observed between positive expression MMP1 and the degrees of fibrosis (r=0. 332, P>0. 05). 3. The parallel relation was observed between positive expressions of TGF β1 and TIMP1 in the development of liver fibrosis. (r=0. 8529, P<0.01). No parallel relation was observed between positive expression of TGF β1 and MMP1 in the development of liver fibrosis (r=0. 2332, P>0.05). Conclusion: TGF β1,MMP1 and TIMP1 may play an important role in the development of liver fibrosis, especially TGF β1 and TIMP1 were tightly correlated with clinical pathologic factors.
