| Objective: To compare the curative effects of Qiangxinning decoction and Captopril in patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) following dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM).Methods: A total of 60 patients with CHF following DCM were entered into the study, 30 patients were randomized to Qiangxinning treatment group and 30 patients to Captopril treatment group. At the prior and the third month following 3-month-treatment, the electrocardioactivity were measured by electrocardiogram, and the parameters of left ventricular systolic and diastolic function were measured by echocardiogram and chest radiogram. Results: (1) At the third month, the patients' sign and NYHA in Qiangxinning and Captopril treatment groups were significantly improved, heart rate significantly decreased, and there was no difference in all of the parameters between Qiangxinning and Captopril treatment groups. (2) At the third month, PVC/THB in Qiangxinning treatment group were significantly decreased (p < 0.05), but the parameter in Captopril treatment group were not improved (p > 0.05). (3) At the third month, LVEDD, LVEF, CTR, CO and SV in Qiangxinning and Captopril treatment groups were significantly increased (p < 0.05). Moreover, CO and SV in Qiangxinning treatment group were improved as compared with those in Captopril treatment group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Qiangxinning decoction might have a highly curative effect in patients with CHF following DCM, reduce dilatation of ventricle, improve the left ventricular function, improve and elongate the patients' life, while the curative effect was similar or prior to Captopril, and have little or no side effects. |
