Objective: To investigate the characters of brain edema after intracerebral hemorrhage and the effects to brain edema on hematoma's location and volume or shape. Whether the drugs is effective to brain edema. Whether the different location or period or drugs affect the hematoma absorption. Methods: We have reviewed 216 patients with ICH admitted within 24 hours of onset, recorded their clinic informatiom measured the volume of hematoma and brain edema on X-ray computed tomography scans with the method of 1/2ABC respectively. Appreciate the effect of drugs to brain edema through clinic experiment and conform whether the drugs affecting the absorption of hematoma. Results: The hematoma volume and time to brain edema's Pearson relation coefficient is 0.680(P<0.001), 0.099(P=0.073). The edema width of grey matters and white matters are defferent also(P<0.01). The hematoma volume and location affect hematoma's absorption velocity. The two groups' edema volume is apparently defferent after the clinic experiments (P<0.05), but the hematoma absorption velocity and Chinese stroke scale (CSS) are the same(P>0.05).Conclusions: The hematoma volume is the most important affecting factors to brain edema then is time, location, volume and so on in 24 hours. The hematoma's shape can affect brain edema. The hematomaabsorption velocity is not the same in different location and hematoma volume. The effect is better when use conjunctive drugs thrapy brain edema. It is possible that the drugs have no direct effect on hematoma absorption velocity.
