The social position of a kind of occupation was influenced by many social factors such as politics economics and culture, in which some factors would mainly decide at a certain period that how the position changed. Accordingly,the change of the position would cause the positive or negative influence upon the development of the relative subject.The article analyzes the positions of old Chinese doctors through thorough search of reference historical case. It has a clear acquaintance with the changes of old Chinese doctors' position and their influence on medicine according to time sequence. The conclusion: the duty of physician during the Xia dynasty and Xizhou dynasty was undertaken by witch physicians who were powerful and influential. In the Xizhou dynasty to Xihan dynasty ,the physician's position was inferior than that of witch physician though they already had high social position. From the mid of Xihan dynasty to Tang dynasty, the physician's position is markedly went down and caused the negative influence to the development of medicine as Confucianism became the orthodox ideology of the feudal society. From Song dynasty to Yuan dynasty ,the dynasts paid high attention to medicine ,so the physician's social position was greatly upgraded ,which promoted the development of medicine . The position of physician in the Ming dynasty and Qing dynasty were unprecedentedly debased. It became a very negative factor to the development of medicine.In conclusion, with the development of traditional Chinese medicine, the position of old Chinese doctors were always changing. These changes had influenced the development of medicined greatly and will guide the further development and reform of traditional Chinese medicine.
