Objectives: The issue was a special research for the purpose of carrying out the Chinese village doctors educational programming advanced by the Sanitation department from 2001 to 2010. By the way of investigating village doctors status, village doctors on-the-job-training and the inclination of village doctors training, finding out the problem of Chinese village doctors on-the-job-training, in order to providing scientific basis for establishing countermeasure of village doctors on-the-job-training.Methods: Cluster and stratified sampling in whole China and 486 administration villages were taken out. The investigation objective was all the village doctors in the village, and the investigation content was village doctors status(including village doctors' age,gender,educational level,etc) , village doctors on-the-job-training(including village doctors' status of taking part in the formal education and taking part in informal education)and the inclination of village doctors training(including the choice about training content ,training site,training form ,etc.)etc. The village doctors were centralized and were investigated through the face to face questionnaire with the investigators according to uniform investigating project, flow and ordains. The questionnaire was filled in by the village doctors and was taken back by the investigator. 2760 eligible questionnaires were received until September 2002. All the investigated data was input thus to establish Excel database, and SPSS11.0 software was applied to statistic and analysis.Results: 1 The composition of village doctors' age and gender:Female of the 2760 village doctors investigated occupied 29.24% and the proportion in the east was 26.18%, significantly lower than that of the west(P<0.01). In the female village doctors, less than 30 years old occupied 31.99%, and above 50 years old occupied 23.66%. The number of the female village doctors in the west above 50 years was 16.32%,significantly lower than that of east or central sextion(P<0.05) while the number less than 30 years old was 40.66%,significantly higher than that of east or central section(P<0.001).2 The educational level of village doctors and the status of village doctors on-the-job-training:In the 2760 village doctors, the number of village doctors possessed technical secondary school (TSS) level occupied 90.69%, the number was only 3.01% when the level was junior college (JC) or above. The proportion of village doctors possess TSS level in the west section was 82.24%,significantly lower than that of in the east or central section (P<0.001). 64.93% village doctors have taken part in the formal education, and the proportion of village doctors took part in formal education in the east was 75.52% significantly higher than that of central or west section (P<0.001). 95.57% village doctors have taken part in the informal education but the time of 78.51% village doctors took part in informal education was less than 3 weeks annually, and the time that the village doctors took part in informal education in the west significantly lower than that of central or east section (P<0.001). The proportion of village doctors without any special educational level dropped from 17.86% three years ago to present 6.30%.3 The factors that disturb village doctors on-the-job -training:38.22% village doctors unwilling take part in training because of the high expense and the proportion in central or west section was 42.36% and 43.82%,significantly higher than that of east section(P<0.001). The expense that 84.85% village doctors can burdened was under 200 ¥RMB. The expense that the village doctors in east section can burdened significantly highly than that of central or west section(P<0.01).36.45% village doctors unwilling take part in training because their work could not be left alone and the proportion of village doctors in the east or central section chose this item (unwilling take part in training) was 40.83% and 42.99%, significantly higher than that of west...
