Objective:1.To study the clinical characteristic of type 2 diabetic nephropathy .2.To investigate into the relationship between the plasminogen activator inhibitor-l(PAI-l) gene 4G/5G polymorphism and Guangdong hanzu type 2 diabetic nephropathy patients .Methods:PAI-1 gene 4G/5G polymorphism was analyzed in normal group (26 individuals) and DM group (147 cases ,DN 77 cases,non-DN 70 cases) by a combination of polymerizes chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Results:1 ,The 4G/4G genotype frequencies of PAI-1 gene( 0.390) for DN patients were higher than those ( 0.171) for non-DN controls(x2=13.008, P.>01) . 2-. The odds ratios (OR) for DM in subjects with the 5G/5Ggenotypes were 1.447(95% CP. 0.533-3.934, P.05). 3,The 4G allele frequencies of PAI-1 gene for DN patients were similar with those (57% and 51 %) for non-DN controls ( x2=1.22, P>0.05) . Conclusion:1, These results suggest that the PAI-1 4G/4G genotype is associated with and increased risk for DN in Guangdong hanzu patients. The subjects with the 4G/4G genotype had a-higher prevalence of DN, compared to those with the 5G/5GPAI-1 genotype. 2 The PAI-1 4G/4G genotype is associated with and increasedrisk for DN with hypertension retinopathy and hypercholester-olemia in Guangdong hanzu patients. 3 The presence of hypertension is an independent risk factor forthe development of DN.
