Objective To investigate the relationship among the expressions of CD44v6 , nm23 and MMP-9 and lymph node metastasis , differentiated degree as well as invasion depth in primary gastric carcinoma. Methods Seventy cases of gastric carcinoma,20 cases of chronic superficial gastritis , 20 cases of large intesinal metaplasia and 20 cases of atipical hyperplasia were investigated using antibodies to CD44v6, MMP-9 and nm23 by S-P immunohistochemical technique.Result The positivity rates of CD44v6 in chronic superficial gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, dysplasia and gastric cancer were 5% , 10% , 20% and 64.3% , respectively. The positivity rates of CD44v6 in poorly , moderately and highly differentiated adenocarcinoma . were 47.4% , 62.5% and 77.8% , respectively. The positivity rates of CD44v6 in lymph node metastasis group and non-. lymph node metastasis group were 76.2% and 46.4% , respectively. The positivity rates of CD44v6 in penetrated the serosa group and non- penetrated the serosa group were 68.4% and 59.4% , respectively. The difference between the expression of CD44v6 and lymph node metastasis and differentiated degree was statistically significant (P<0.05).There was not statistically significant in the difference between the expression of CD44v6 and the depth of invasion(P>0.05).The positivity rates of MMP-9 in chronic superficial gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, dysplasia and gastric cancer were 0 , 0, 10% and 60.0% respectively . The positivity rates of MMP-9 in poorly , moderately andhighly differentiated adenocarcinoma . were 77.3% , 58.3% and 36.8% , respectively. The positivity rates of MMP-9 in lymph node metastasis group and non-. lymph node metastasis group were 73.8% and 37.5% , respectively. The positivity rates of MMP-9 in penetrated the serosa group and non- penetrated the serosa group were 79.0% and 37.5% , respectively. The difference between the expression of MMP-9 and lymph node metastasis and differentiated degree was statistically significant (P<0.05).The positivity rates of nm23 in chronic superficial gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, dysplasia and gastric cancer were 100% , 100% , 100% and 57.1% , respectively. The positivity rates of nm23 in poorly , moderately and highly differentiated adenocarcinoma . were 37.0% , 66.7% and 73.7% , respectively. The positivity rates of nm23 in lymph node metastasis group and non-. lymph node metastasis group were 40.5% and 82.1% , respectively. The positivity rates of nm23 in penetrated the serosa group and non- penetrated the serosa group were 42.1% and 75.0% , respectively. The difference between the expression of nm23 and lymph node metastasis and differentiated degree was statistically significant (P<0.05). CD44v6 expression in gastric cancer was positively correlated with MMP-9 and expression (P<0.05), but negatively correlated with nm23 expression. nm23 expression in gastric cancer was positively correlated with MMP-9.Conclusion The detection of CD44v6, MMP-9 and nm23 was valuable in evaluating differential degree , depth of invasion and lymph node metastasis of gastric cancer.
