With the development of technology, requirement of cosmetic dentistry and new materials of dentistry, the science of tooth color has to be studied and developed further. The color of prosthetics is not only the main part in the cosmetic dentistry, but also in the evaluating prosthetics. Some researches have been done on the influence between color and factors, such as background or firing times. This article is mainly about the thickness effects on color, with MINOLTA CR-321 colorimeter, DataColor SF300 Spectrophotometer and D65 light source. The following results were obtained:1. With the thickness of Opaque-Dentine increase from 0.2mm to 0.4mm, the L values of specimens were decreased, while H values remained relatively stale(p>0.05). The optimum thickness of Opaque-Dentine ranges from 0.2mra~ 0.4mm.2. Applied with 1.0mm Dentine, the L values of specimens decreased with the increase of Opaque Dentinefrom 0.2mm to 0.4mm. The C values and H values of specimens did the same. It can be concluded that the thickness of Dentine can influence the final color.3. Given the fixed thickness of Opaque Dentine and Dentine based on the previous study, the thickness of infiltrated alumina substrates can influence the final color of the specimens. And the applicable thickness of the substrate ranges from 0.5mm~ 0.7mm.It can be concluded that In-Ceram prosthetics can meet the patients' color need by regulating the thickness of different kind of porcelain and substrates.
