Objective To confirm the efficacy and safety of urethroscopic electrofulguration following instillation of BCG to treat male widespread urethral condylomata acuminata .Methods Between March 2003 and March 2004, 13 male patients with widespread urethral condylomata acuminata (extensive lesions, larger than semicircle of urethra and 2cm )were treated with urethroscopic electrofulguration. One week after electrofulguration, 50mg BCG dissolved in 2.5 ml sterile saline was directly instilled into the urethra and maintained for 2 hours. A total of 6 BCG instillations were given in weekly intervals. All patients were monitored by urethroscopy and those who had recurrences were retreated with another course of electrofulguration and BCG instillation.Result 9 patients had been followed up exceed 9 months , 7 were relapse-free more than 6 months after the last electrofulguration therapy and were considered as cured ( 2 patients required a single electrofulgration ,5 patients required two ) . Another 4 had been followedup 3-5 months and none relapsed. No patient was suffered of local or system tuberculosis and urethra stenosis had not happened.Conclosion urethroscopic electrofulguration following intraurethral instillated with BCG is effective and safe to treat male widespread urethral condylomata acuminata.
