Objective To investigate the relationship between the serum zinc, growth hormone(GH)and insulin-like growth factors I (IGF- I ) and children with psoriasis vulgaris. Methods Before puberty or puberty of children with psoriasis and healthy controls was judged by Tanner. The serum levels of Zn were measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometry(AAS);Serum levels of GH and IGF- I were measured by radioimmunoassay(RIA).Clinical severity of the children with psoriasis vulgaris was assessed by PASI score.Result (1)The serum levels of Zn were significantly lower in the children with psoriasis vulgaris (0.88 0.18 g / ml)than those in matched controls (1.09 0.26ng/ ml) (t=4.59,P < 0.01) ,and in progressive stage (0.84 0.19 g /ml) than those in stationary stage (0.97 0.15ng / ml) (t=-2.69,P < 0.05) of psoriatic children.(2) Before puberty, serum levels of GH (6.21 1.39ng / ml) and IGF- I (21.84 5.15ng / ml) were significantly higher in the psoriasis group than those in the control group ( 4.15 2.57ng / ml , 17.87 3.87ng / ml respectively) (t=-4.17,P < 0.01; t=3.55,P < 0.01 respectively) ,but no significant difference was found in progressive stage(5.99 2.34 ng / ml, 23.09 + 8.52 ng / ml respectively) compared with stationary stage (6.43+2.54 ng / ml, 20.99 5.52 ng / ml respectively) (t=0.53,P > 0.05; t=0.82,P > 0.05 respectively) . (3)In puberty, there was no statistical difference in serum levels of GH and IGF- I between the psoriasis group ( 7.23 3.90 ng / ml, 22.85 5.51ng / ml respectively) and control group (5.49 + 2.92 ng / ml, 19.37 3.97ng / ml respectively) (t=1.55,P > 0.05; t=-1.98,P > 0.05 respectively) .?There was a negative correlation between serum Zn levels and PASI score (r=-0.62,P < 0.01) . Before puberty there was positive correlation between serum GH and IGF- I levels and PASI score (r=0.60,P< 0.01; r=0.74,P < 0.01 respectively) . Beforepuberty there was negative correlation between serum Zn and GH , IGF- I levels (r=-0.58,P < 0.01 ; r=-0.52,P < 0.01 respectively) .In puberty there was no correlation between serum Zn levels and GH, IGF-? levels (r=0.058, P > 0.05; r=0.034, P > 0.05 respectively) .Conclusion The results indicate that the level of the serum Zn of psoriasis children decrease significantly, and there is a negative correlation between Zn and PASI score. Before puberty the levels of GH and IGF- I increase significantly, and there was a positive correlation between serum levels of GH and IGF- I and PASI score.Trace element Zn, GH and IGF- I may be involved in pathogenesis of children psoriasis...
